Chords Quiz

Welcome to the Chords Quiz Page!

On this page you can test your ability to analyse chords using the extended Roman numeral system.

  • Major chords are shown with capital letters e.g. V (major dominant chord)
  • Minor chords are lower case e.g. iv (minor subdominant chord)
  • Augmented chords are in capital with a + sign, e.g. III+ (augmented mediant chord)
  • Diminished chords are lower case with a ° symbol, e.g. ii° (diminished supertonic chord)
  • Inversions are shown using the letters a (root position), b (1st inversion), c (2nd inversion) and d (3rd inversion)

This is the system used by all UK music theory exam boards.
